News and Releases

Beginning in mid-June, The Thought of Infinity Group think tank will begin installation of a permanent exhibit entitled The Santa Maria Experiment at the Santa Maria Seeds of Change Education and Visitor Center in downtown Columbus, OH on the riverfront. The exhibit will feature two display panels showing the scientific research led by R&D engineer Marshall Barnes that proved that refraction of light would make solid, opaque objects look invisible, proving true the statements given by an anonymous scientist to writer William Moore back in the late 1970s. The Santa Maria replica was the largest object that Marshall tested this
Auction event presents evidence that voids Duke University claim of first working invisibility cloak.
There will be a silent auction, during a scheduled gallery opening, of the full color version of the historic 1994 first published photograph of an invisibility test, using a full scale replica of the Santa Maria as a target. It originally appeared in black and white in the July 1994 issue of Purpose Magazine.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Santa Maria Experiment Exhibit is open now, long enough to give visitors a peek this fall at what is to come next April when the Santa Maria Visitor Education Center opens again for its new season. The last day this year will be October 21st. In addition to the two 40 x 60 inch panels and the video display, there will be a small model exhibit and permanent viewer where vistors can see the Santa Maria look transparent themselves. There will also be T-shirts and other items available for sale and special events throughout the season that will feature invisibility demonstrations for vistors, including a planned invisible, remote control model ship!

10/22/2007 SME NOW CLOSED FOR THE SEASON...

The Santa Maria Experiment exhibit is now closed for the season but will reopen with the Santa Maria Visitor Education Center the first weekend of April 2008. However, its official web site will continue to grow and expand in sophistication in the meantime. Be sure to check back for updates and added new features such as our science of invisibility research library, video room, photo galleries, lecture hall, and much more!

David Vance of Green Shag Design and Marketing (on the right) gets this handsome, full color display of first ever published photograph of invisibility cloaking in the optical range. First appeared in black and white in July 1994 issue of Purpose Magazine. Display is autographed and includes miniaturized copy of Purpose cover, and page on which the photo appeared, along with attribution (see close-up). Vance won the display during a raffle held by High Street Neighborhoods .

NEW SITE ADDITIONS ON THE WAY!

Slated to begin appearing between Christamas and New Years are photo galleries of experiments and the exhibit at the Santa Maria, plus a video page and our library of invisibility research. We've also added an "About" page and one dealing with the controversy over the state of physics, but these appear as links embedded in a number of already existing pages on the site. You never know when we'll make slight additions this way, so check back often.

COLUMBUS SAMPLER PAGE A HIT!

Our "Community Support" page has morphed into it's own identity as a kind of Columbus Sampler where businesses can be readily accessed by the curious and those looking for shopping and service opportunities that they might not have known existed. Check out the current press release here. You'll be seeing the Columbus Sampler aggressively promoted online and elsewhere, promoting both the SME exhibit and the diversity of what Columbus has to offer!
